Mobile Credit Card Reader – Paypal

March 16, 2012 in Fair, Farmers' Market, Festival, Rodeo

Wonderful news for all the vendors who use Paypal but have been reluctant to get themselves a mobile credit card reader device.

Paypal with one of their partners is now offering “Paypal Here” as a tiny triangular shaped device to plug into your iPhone or Droid. Swipe a credit card, take a picture of a check or manually enter the info. Paypal Here looks like being a great device for those of us out and about at Festivals and Markets etc. Also a wonderful convenience for the shopper!

Farmers’ Markets

March 15, 2012 in Farmers' Market

It is often asked why a Farmers’ Market can’t or won’t run all year. There are many reasons.

The main reason is usually the amount of produce that would be available at a particular time of the year. Where I live in North Louisiana one of our farmers’ Markets operates only during June, July and August. This does coincide with 2 of the big locally produced crops of tomatoes and corn. Opening day of the Shreveport Farmers’ Market will bring a crowd of 8-12,000. Within 6 weeks though this will have dropped significantly as those 2 main crops fade from availability.

Another reason for markets opening at certain times is that the facility may be a shared facility that has other events at other times of the year. Again in the case of Shreveport Farmers’ Market, which is located in Festival Plaza Shreveport, many other events are planned on their annual calendar.

Some vendors are able to bake, make or be able to vend products all year. But for one reason or another they may not be able to. If you are one of those vendors then look for other ways to sell your goods at other events.

Enjoy going to a Farmers’ Market.

Your favorite festival?

March 12, 2012 in Festival

So let’s start this off with a question. What is your favorite festival or event? Which one of the hundreds in Louisiana each year is a “must go” event. Can’t miss. You get the picture?

Mudbug Madness in Shreveport? Natchitoches Christmas Festival?

French Quarter Festival or something else?

Let us know and we will feature them here on the Country Louisiana.
